Yet another wet and windy Air Day

I FEEL desperately sorry for everyone connected to Air Day as once again the weather was the only winner this year.

I’m not sure of the actual statistics but it does seem to be overcast and wet most years, but it is often clear skies every day leading up to the annual show.  There was limited flying this year with low fog disrupting the event whereas the previous day was glorious sunshine.

Driving anywhere in Helston on Air Day can normally be a challenge and I once spent nearly two hours trying to navigate my way from Falmouth back to the town.  I used every back road and short cut I knew which saw me cross from the Falmouth Road onto the Redruth Road then through Lowertown to get to the Penzance Road.

This year, I drove around to see customers as if it was a normal business day. I didn’t notice a single extra car on the road all day either.

There is an awful lot of work , not to mention expense, that goes into Air Day and although I know some people did go up to look around the base, the numbers would have been hugely down. Many people are reported to have left disappointed having not seen any aerial displays.

Bad luck Culdrose and fingers crossed for next time.
