Helston is mourning the loss of a well-respected photographer who recently passed away.
Keith Richards, who has worked for several local newspapers, died in his sleep during the evening of Saturday July 30. The news came as a shock to those who knew him with an outpouring of grief seen on social media.
On Facebook, many people wrote of their upset and surprise at the news while recalling his dry sense of humour, kindness and generosity. Almost all experessed how they would miss seeing him either at local events or walking his dog Kayna.
Keith, 57, had received a cancer diagnosis this year and had spent time in hospital but was believed to be on the road to recovery and had been making plans for the future.
During his extensive career, he took photos for both Packet Newspapers and The West Briton and the Advertiser regularly published his images over the years.
More recently Keith had become my close neighbour and most days I would see him walking with Kayna and his partner Elisabeth and we would say “hello” as we passed.
Although only casual acquaintances, we moved in similar circles due to our shared industry and I only ever heard praise for him both personally and professionally.
Many of us have spent years enjoying his high quality photos and I would like to personally show my respect by allowing this space to be devoted to this truly special Helston figure who will be sorely missed.
