Families in the Helston area now have another option for choosing a Christmas tree, with the opening of a new choose and cut tree plantation.
Keywest Christmas Trees at Packet Lane in Rosudgeon is offering visitors the chance of Christmas heaven by choosing their favourite tree direct from the field. Customers can walk among the plantation to make their selection before having a tree cut, packed and prepared to take home.
Business partners Martin and Julie Westley and Rob and Ali Keskeys launched the new venture utilising Rob and Ali’s available land and Martin and Julie’s knowledge from growing an existing tree plantation nearby. Billed as ‘probably the first BCTGA choose and cut venue in West Cornwall,’ the company has previously supplied trees on a wholesale basis to local outlets, and this year decided to offer trees to the retail customers.
Julie Westley said: “While new in West Cornwall, the partnership has strong roots with family having grown Christmas trees for over 60 years. My father has helped us over the years with planting and advice on how to get a nicely shaped tree. My experience from Dad’s plantation in South-East Cornwall is that children and the whole family love to walk among the trees and have the excitement of choosing one that is still growing. All of us at Keywest are very excited to welcome customers to come and wander through the trees.”
Christmas trees on sale have been growing here for the past 7 years, with more than 6,000 up to 7ft high and even taller ones in a nearby field. The business specialises in the Nordman Fir, a low needle-drop variety originating from Russia that has become the UK’s favourite. Taking pride in quality trees, the business is a member of the British Christmas Tree Growers Association (BCTGA) which promotes those grown in an environmental and sustainable way.
For a special treat this Christmas, pop down to Keywest between 9am-3.30pm on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from December 1 to 23.
