SAD NEWS which many people feared has become a reality with the formal announcement that Budgens supermarket in Helston is to close.
The company which owns the store had announced the store was under threat of closure last month due to a lack of customers and poor profits. Although there was only a slight possibility it would remain open, there was still hope.
The loss of this huge store on the fringes of the town centre will be felt by many other businesses in the town and it will not be easy to find another company willing to fill the void and take on such a large, ageing building.
But perhaps it is an opportunity for a new direction with an arcade for new start-up businesses or even an ice rink, bowling alley or perhaps a bargain shop such as Poundland or B&M?
The stores closure does not have to be the end but maybe a brighter beginning. What are your ideas do you have for this building which could benefit the whole town?
