22 years ago a friend and I started an outdoor adventure activity for teenagers in the area.
We called it Survivealive and this week-long residential took place again this August. Many former campers now take a leading role in the adventure which included sleeping out in the woods for a night, kayaking and paddle boarding with Vertical Blue in Porthleven, a training session with the Cornish Pirates, lots of practical leadership tasks and live music. Activities included a visit to the Bolenow Animal Sanctuary in Ruan Minor, exclusive use of Retallack Inflatable Aqua Park, our own on-site ‘run the gauntlet’, lots of human table football and other sport. Every year we raise money to support an international charity with a local connection. In previous years we have twinned our site toilets with toilets in Burundi, funded a playing field in Cambodia and last year helped fund a literacy centre for girls in South Africa. This year we are supporting Cerebral Palsy Africa which makes robust chairs from cardboard for children who otherwise are unable to sit or go to school or even breathe probably. I personally want to thank Godolphin School, Penzance Sea Cadets, Porthleven Cycles, and Vertical Blue, who all helped to make this year’s outdoor adventure a memorable event.
Once again I’ve planned a series of ‘Drop-In’ events which is your opportunity to ask absolutely any question or raise an issue or concern. These take place across West Cornwall. The ones to look out for in your area take place at:
24th September – Godolphin Club Helston 9.30am, Breage Social Club at 5.30pm and Lion and Lamb, Ashton 7pm. 29th September Five Pilchards, Porthallow 9.30am, New Inn, Manaccan, 11am and Praa Sands Holiday Park 12.45pm. Further drop-ins take place in October including in Helston, Porthleven, Coverack, Mullion, and Lizard. Details can be found on my web-site or by contacting my Constituency Office. I look forward to meeting with you. Private surgery appointments carry on as usual on a Friday morning. Please contact the office if this is more appropriate for your needs.
