New store celebrates local food producers

An established Helston business has opened a new store offering shelf space to specialist local food producers to sell directly to customers.

Janes Fish and Chips, based at Turnpike in Helston, has enjoyed brisk trade since opening its doors in 2014 offering fresh local produce prepared for each order.

Owners Jonny Jane and Famke Vanluffelen have now opened a second shop next door selling premium local produce from Roskillys, Halzephron Herb Farm, Trenance Chocolate, Treleague Dairy, Heather Bell Honey Bee, Helford Creek juices and cyder and Cornish Sea Salt.

The new store will also stock products from companies throughout the county such as Cornish Ketchup, The Great British Crisp Company, Hugo’s Cornish Breakfast Cereal and a range of plant based crackers from Mossel & Croust.

Turnpike Dairy traded at the same location for nearly 60 years before closing in the 1990’s and the couple are thrilled to be able to offer diary related products, along with pasties cooked daily on the premises.

Jonny said: “We have built up a loyal following and want our customers to know that when they walk through the doors they will find a variety of hand picked food options. We want to support local businesses that bring something new to the dining experiences and are interested in talking to more local food producers who may be looking for an outlet for their products.”
