Historic village pub gets new owners

A historic pub in Gweek is set for a new lease of life under new owners, and regulars are being assured any changes will only add to the heart of the premises.

Shelley and Mike Newbury recently took over the reins from Alec and Lowenna Robertson at the Black Swan and have already made improvements. The couple has introduced an updated menu and are set to renovate guest rooms and create a new children’s play area.

Mike said: “We are hugely excited by the challenge ahead and fell in love with the Black Swan the moment we first walked through the doors. It has a great following and strong reputation which we will looking to build on with several of our own ideas.”

Popular favourites such as a monthly quiz night and regular live music events will continue, along with the launch of weekly special promotions.

Shelly added: “We were lucky to inherit a hard-working, friendly and dedicated team and are thrilled they will be staying here to work with us as we look to build on the great reputation the Black Swan has earned in recent years.”

Alongside a traditional Sunday roast, the pub serves a varied menu of home-cooked dishes with a modern style along with a fine selection of Cornish drinks including some popular cask ales such as Betty Stoggs, Doom Bar and Tribute.

The family-friendly and dog-friendly pub offers a wealth of character and charm and the new owners are looking forward to greeting customers old and new.
