Helston could be set for high-octane racing action with a soapbox race through the town in a bid to raise funds for good causes.
Local businessman Clinton Bray is looking into the viability of organising a Red Bull Soapbox Race-style event, yet on a smaller scale.
The ambitious plan would see thrills and spills as competitors race on wacky home-made machines from Helston’s Medical Centre, through Meneage Street and Coinagehall Street and finish near Grylls Monument.
Mr Bray, owner of Clinton’s Garage at Water-ma-Trout Industrial Estate, said: “A similar event is being planned for Stithians showground in August and I feel this is something we could easily organise in Helston. It would give people an opportunity to work together on a fun project, give town businesses a boost and more importantly, raise money for local organisations which work so hard to help the local community.”
Funds raised from the event would be shared between local good causes, such as Helston Medical Centre and St Johns Ambulance. Mr Bray is also interested in organising a children’s version of the race on the same day, in one of the town’s car parks.
He added: “The early feedback has been strong with many people expressing an interest including drone operators interested in filming the day. I encourage anyone who feels they could offer any help, either practical or even with ideas, to get in touch with me on 07581 466327.”
