Helston Athletic Football Club has reached a new milestone in the long history of the club, when it reached a total of over 1,000 registered members for the year 2016/17.
Club Membership Secretary Tony Watt said “This is a major achievement for both the club and the town of Helston. Over the last few years we have set a goal of not just becoming a recognised force in Cornish football, but also to become the leading community organisation within the local area”.
Although the playing of football is the most prominent interest to many members, the club is also used for a wide range of activities, including very successful darts and pools teams and organisations, the clubhouse hosts many social events throughout the year as well as many charitable fundraising events.
First team manager Stephen “Sid” Taylor said: “The success and future of the club’s senior football teams is strongly focused on us developing our youth players. With nearly 300 registered youth players this season the future of the club on the field is exciting.”
