Goonhilly celebrates historic moon landing

One of Cornwall’s most iconic locations, Goonhilly Earth Station, is staging an event to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the first Apollo moon landing.

Apollo 50 is a one-off special event celebrating the monumental anniversary with an educational and entertaining day of music, science, art and culture on Saturday, July 20.

The satellite communications site played a pivotal role in broadcasting the moon landing in 1969 when it beamed images of the event to millions of homes around the world.

A host of musicians, experts, authors and scientists will join the celebrations and discussions during the day.
