Two young local footballers enjoyed a dream weekend when they travelled to the home of one of the most successful teams in world football.
Fifteen-year-old Aiden Jolliffe from Helston and fourteen-year-old Rosie Shipp from Gunwalloe were selected from the ‘Fundacion Real Madrid Clinic’ held at Culdrose Youth FC last August. The talented pair attended an all-expenses paid weekend trial in Madrid.
The first day saw the duo receive official training kit before heading to the Ciudad Real Madrid exclusive training complex on the outskirts of the city, where trialists were given an 80-minute training assessment by the coaches.
The next day they were taken by coach to the 81,000 Estadio Santiago Bernabeu where Real Madrid provided a full kit and new boots for trialists, which were hung up in the changing space of the current squad.
A full trial then took place on the pitch at the Bernabeu before Rosie was interviewed for Real Madrid TV on her experience over the weekend.
RNAS Culdrose FC Chairman Lt Cdr Andrew Plenty who accompanied the pair said:
“I was immensely proud to see two young local players run out onto the pitch at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu, they were a credit to the club and to Cornish youth football and impressed the coaches in amongst 36 players from 8 different countries. The memories of the weekend will last a lifetime for everyone.”
The coaches from Fundacion Real Madrid will return this summer to hold another clinic at Culdrose from the August 6 to 10. For more information visit frmclinics.co.uk.
