Couple hope new shop will bear fruit

The newest shop in Porthleven has opened its doors – bringing a fresh supply of locally grown produce and a community service to customers.

Land of Fruit and Glory is a traditional grocer’s shop selling fruit and veg and offers the chance for customers to catch up on the latest local news at the premises in Fore Street.

Husband-and-wife team Brian and Rachel Arrowsmith decided to take the plunge following Rachel’s life-long desire to run her own business. Former Porthleven Post Office worker, Rachel, said: “It was always my dream to run a business and it feels great to be able to offer so much local produce from allotments and gardens around the village. While some supermarket produce can often be days, if not weeks old, we pride ourselves on offering super-fresh and mostly locally grown produce which has travelled just a few miles and often available the same day it was picked.

“We also stock a wide range of other popular local items such as jams, honey from Hayle and Roddas cream. Since opening the shop in July our first two months of trading have exceeded expectations and we are overwhelmed by all the support we have received.”

The shop is open from 9am to 5pm on Monday to Saturday.
