Cornwall Sports Awards winner revealed

A local man was one of a number of Cornwall sports volunteers to be honoured at this year’s Cornwall Sports Awards.

Peter Thorne was presented with the Lifetime Services to Sport, at the event held at The Headland Hotel in Newquay.

The awards, which are now in their twelfth year, recognise and reward volunteers and organisations from across Cornwall who inspire others to be physically active.

Mr Thorne has volunteered at Wendron’s Cricket Club and Football Club for the last 40 years and led the clubs’ committee on a number of projects. He also runs a men’s football team and helps coach the clubs three cricket teams, plus carries out most of the maintenance at the club.

Mr Thorne said: “It is a great privilege for me and my family and also long-term support from Wendron CC and AFC. The evening is a credit to all involved.”
